  • FAQ

1. What is the FRM200 micro metal tube float flowmeter?

The FRM200 is a micro metal tube float flowmeter designed for measuring very small flows of gases and liquids. Its all-metal construction resists high temperature, high pressure and corrosive media, and it includes a needle valve for precise flow adjustment.

2. How does the FRM200 work?

The FRM200 uses the float (variable-area) measuring principle. The flow lifts a float inside a metal measuring tube until the flow force balances the weight of the float; each float position corresponds to a flow rate. A magnetic coupling system transmits the float movement to the indicator without physical contact, which improves accuracy and service life.

3. What flow ranges can the FRM200 measure?
  • Liquid: 1–150 L/h
  • Gas: 16–4800 L/h
4. What process connections are available?
  • NPT 1/4 female thread
  • HG/T 20592 PN40 DN15 flange
  • ISO 2852 clamp (50.5 mm)
  • Compression fittings for 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm and 12 mm tubing
5. What materials are used?

The measuring tube and float are made of 316L stainless steel as standard. Other materials are available on request. The indicator uses an aluminum alloy square housing.

6. What inlet and outlet arrangements are available?
  • Bottom inlet / top outlet
  • Right inlet / left outlet
  • Left inlet / right outlet
  • Side inlet / side outlet

This flexibility makes it easier to fit the meter into compact instrument panels and skids.

7. How accurate is the FRM200?

The standard accuracy is grade 2.5. Other accuracy options are available on request.

8. What indicator options are available?

The FRM200 is available with a pointer indicator or an LCD display, both in an aluminum alloy square housing.

9. What output signals are available?

Options include two-wire 4–20 mA, HART, RS485 and more. Please tell us your power supply and signal requirements so we can confirm the configuration.

10. What alarm options are available?

Upper and lower limit flow alarms are available with SPDT dry contacts or NAMUR switches.

11. What is the needle valve used for?

The integrated needle valve allows precise setting and control of very low flow rates. It can be supplied on the inlet or the outlet side; please tell us your system pressure conditions so we can recommend the right position.

12. What is the constant flow valve option?

A constant flow valve keeps the flow rate stable when the inlet or outlet pressure changes. Low-pressure and high-pressure versions are available for inlet or outlet pressure variations.

13. What is the electrical interface and protection rating?

The electrical interface is an M16×1.5 cable gland, and the protection class is IP67.

14. What maximum pressure and temperature can the FRM200 handle?

The all-metal construction is designed for high-temperature and high-pressure applications. Please tell us your operating pressure and temperature, and our team will confirm the suitable configuration.

15. How do gas type, pressure and temperature affect the reading?

A float flowmeter is calibrated for a specific medium and operating conditions. If the gas type, density, pressure or temperature differ from the calibration conditions, the reading will differ. Please provide the medium and operating conditions so the meter can be calibrated and scaled for your application.

16. Can the FRM200 be used in hazardous areas?

NAMUR switch alarms are available, which are commonly used with intrinsically safe circuits. If your installation is in a hazardous area, please tell us the area classification and required certification so we can confirm the configuration.

17. Where is the FRM200 typically used?

Typical applications include gas chromatography, sampling equipment, laboratory apparatus, pharmaceutical machinery, nitrogen and argon supply systems, oxygenation devices, nuclear power, marine equipment and leak detection devices.

18. What is the difference between the FRM200 and the MIK-LZ?

Both are metal tube float flowmeters. The FRM200 is designed for very small flows (liquid 1–150 L/h, gas 16–4800 L/h) and includes a needle valve for flow adjustment. The MIK-LZ metal tube rotameter is designed for larger pipelines and flow rates.

19. How should the FRM200 be installed?
  • Install the meter in the orientation specified for the selected inlet/outlet arrangement.
  • Keep it away from strong magnetic fields and ferromagnetic objects that may affect the magnetic coupling.
  • Install a filter upstream if the medium may contain particles.
  • Avoid strong vibration and pulsating flow.

Please follow the installation manual or contact our engineers for site-specific requirements.

20. What information should I provide to get a quotation?

To help us select the correct model, please provide:

  • Medium name and state (liquid or gas), density and viscosity
  • Flow range (min / normal / max)
  • Operating pressure and temperature
  • Process connection and inlet/outlet arrangement
  • Indicator type (pointer or LCD)
