  • FAQ

1. What is the MIK-FSC400 wall-mounted ultrasonic flow meter?

The MIK-FSC400 is a wall-mounted ultrasonic flow meter for continuous measurement of most homogeneous liquids in industrial environments. It is available with clamp-on or insertion sensors, supports optional heat measurement, and provides pulse, 4–20 mA, RS485 and SPST outputs.

2. How does the MIK-FSC400 measure flow?

Ultrasonic sensors transmit signals through the liquid, and the wall-mounted converter uses the received signals to calculate the flow velocity and flow rate. The clamp-on sensors are mounted on the outside of the pipe, while insertion sensors are installed through the pipe wall.

3. What sensor types and pipe sizes are available?
  • Medium-sized clamp-on: DN50–DN700
  • Standard insertion: DN80–DN6000
  • Extended insertion: DN80–DN6000
4. Clamp-on or insertion: which should I choose?

Clamp-on sensors are mounted outside the pipe with no contact with the liquid, and are suitable for pipes from DN50 to DN700. Insertion sensors are available for DN80 to DN6000 and are generally chosen for very large pipes, or where pipe conditions such as thick linings or scaling make clamp-on measurement difficult. Please send us your pipe details and our engineers will recommend a sensor type.

5. What is the difference between standard and extended insertion sensors?

Both insertion types cover DN80 to DN6000. Please tell us your pipe wall thickness, insulation and installation conditions, and our team will confirm which insertion length is suitable.

6. Can it be installed without stopping the flow?

Yes. The MIK-FSC400 is designed for non-intrusive installation without flow interruption. Clamp-on sensors are simply mounted on the outside of the pipe. For insertion sensors on pressurized pipes, please tell us your pipe pressure and conditions so we can confirm the installation method and tools required.

7. What liquids can it measure?

It is suitable for most homogeneous liquids, and works best with clean liquids that do not contain high concentrations of particles or bubbles. Please send us your liquid details for confirmation.

8. Is the measurement affected by pipe material or lining?

The MIK-FSC400 is designed so that measurement accuracy is not affected by pipe wall or lining materials. For correct setup, please still provide the pipe outer diameter, wall thickness, material and lining information.

9. Can the MIK-FSC400 measure heat (energy)?

Yes. Heat measurement is optional. With integrated temperature sensors, the meter can calculate thermal energy for heating and cooling systems. Please tell us if you need this function when ordering.

10. How accurate is the MIK-FSC400?

The accuracy is grade 1.0. Actual accuracy also depends on correct installation and pipe parameters.

11. What temperature range does it support?

The operating temperature range is -30 °C to 90 °C, depending on the model selected. Please tell us your liquid temperature so we can confirm the right sensor.

12. What output signals are available?
  • Pulse output
  • 4–20 mA output
  • RS485 communication
  • SPST relay output

These outputs allow seamless integration with existing PLC, SCADA and energy management systems.

13. What power supply does it require?

It supports dual power supply options: 24 VDC or 220 VAC.

14. What is the housing and protection rating?

The housing is made of ABS plastic, with M20×1.5 cable glands. Protection ratings of IP65 and IP68 are available. Please tell us your installation environment so we can confirm the configuration.

15. What cable lengths are available?

Standard sensor cable lengths are 5 m, 10 m and 20 m. Custom lengths up to 100 m are available.

16. Which industries use the MIK-FSC400?

It is ideal for the petroleum, chemical, power generation and food processing industries, and can also be used in water supply and HVAC systems for flow and energy monitoring.

17. What should I consider during installation?
  • Choose a straight pipe section away from pumps, valves and elbows.
  • Make sure the pipe is always completely full of liquid.
  • For clamp-on sensors, clean the pipe surface and apply coupling compound.
  • On horizontal pipes, avoid mounting sensors at the very top or bottom of the pipe.
  • Install the converter in a location protected from direct rain and heat.

Please follow the installation manual or contact our engineers for site-specific requirements.

18. What is the difference between the MIK-FSC400 and the MIK-1158S?

Both are wall-mounted ultrasonic flow meters. The MIK-FSC400 offers both clamp-on and insertion sensors, optional heat measurement, and cable lengths up to 100 m. The MIK-1158S is a clamp-on model covering DN32 to DN6000 with a built-in data logger.

19. What information should I provide to get a quotation?

To help us select the correct configuration, please provide:

  • Liquid name and temperature
  • Pipe outer diameter, wall thickness, material and lining
  • Flow range (min / normal / max)
  • Preferred sensor type (clamp-on or insertion)
  • Whether heat measurement is required
