  • FAQ

1. What is the MIK-ZP ultrasonic level transmitter?

The MIK-ZP is a fully digital non-contact ultrasonic level transmitter with level monitoring, data transmission and man-machine communication. Its main chip works with application-specific ICs including digital temperature compensation, and it offers strong anti-interference performance, free setting of upper and lower limits, online output regulation and on-site indication.

2. How does the MIK-ZP measure level?

The sensor emits high-frequency sound waves toward the product surface. The waves are reflected back, and the transmitter measures the travel time to calculate the distance, from which the level is derived. Digital temperature compensation corrects for the effect of air temperature on the speed of sound.

3. What measuring ranges and blind zones are available?
  • 5 m range: blind zone 0.4 m
  • 10 m range: blind zone 0.5 m
  • 15 m range: blind zone 0.6 m

The maximum level must stay below the blind zone of the selected range.

4. How accurate is the MIK-ZP?

Accuracy is 0.3% FS.

5. What outputs are available?
  • 4–20 mA, RL <600 Ω (standard)
  • RS485
  • HART (two-wire)
  • 1–5 V or 1–10 V
  • 2 relays (AC 5 A 250 V; DC 10 A 24 V)

Outputs are optional; please tell us which combination you need.

6. What power supply is required?

12–24 VDC, 18–28 VDC (two-wire) or 220 VAC. Power consumption is below 1.5 W.

7. What display does it have?

It has an OLED display for on-site indication.

8. What materials and electrical interface are used?
  • Housing materials: ABS and PP
  • Electrical interface: M20×1.5
9. What is the protection rating?

IP65 is standard, and IP68 is optional. Please tell us your installation environment, for example if the transmitter may be flooded.

10. Can it measure both liquids and solids?

Yes. Ultrasonic level transmitters are used for liquid and solid surface measurement. For solids, the surface angle, dust and particle size affect the echo, so please send us your material details for confirmation.

11. Do foam, vapour or dust affect the measurement?

Thick foam can absorb the sound signal, and heavy vapour, dust or strong turbulence can weaken or scatter the echo. For difficult conditions, a radar level transmitter may be more suitable. Please describe your process conditions.

12. How does the MIK-ZP compare with the MIK-MP?
  • MIK-ZP: ranges 5, 10 and 15 m; accuracy 0.3% FS; OLED display; 4–20 mA, RS485, HART, voltage output and 2 relays; IP65 or IP68; ABS/PP housing.
  • MIK-MP: ranges 5 to 30 m; accuracy ±0.5% FS (±0.2% optional); 0.35 m blind zone; 2-inch LCD; 4–20 mA, RS485 and 2 relays; adjustable pulse intensity.

Please tell us your measuring range and output requirements so we can recommend the right model.

13. Is HART communication available?

Yes. HART is available as a two-wire option, which allows the transmitter to be integrated into HART-based control and asset management systems.

14. What alarm and control functions are included?

Two relays are available for high and low level alarms or simple control tasks such as switching pumps, and the upper and lower limits can be set freely. The analog output can also be regulated online.

15. How should the MIK-ZP be installed?
  • Mount the sensor perpendicular to the medium surface.
  • Keep the maximum level below the blind zone of the selected range.
  • Avoid inlets, agitators, ladders and other obstacles in the sound path.
  • Keep a suitable distance from the tank wall.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and strong vibration where possible.

Please follow the installation manual or contact our engineers for site-specific requirements.

16. How much maintenance does it need?

Measurement is non-contact and virtually maintenance-free. For media that build up on the sensor face, periodic inspection and cleaning is recommended.

17. Where is the MIK-ZP used?

Typical applications include water and wastewater, chemical, mining, pulp and paper, food and beverage, energy storage and cooling, and HVAC.

18. What information should I provide to get a quotation?

To help us select the correct model, please provide:

  • Medium (liquid or solid) and its properties
  • Measuring range and tank or pit dimensions
  • Process conditions (foam, vapour, dust, temperature)
  • Mounting connection and installation position
  • Output requirements (4–20 mA, RS485, HART, voltage, relays)
