  • FAQ

1. What is the MIK-ADI3050 ammonia nitrogen electrode?

The MIK-ADI3050 is an online ion-selective ammonia nitrogen electrode for real-time monitoring in water. It measures ammonium ions directly without reagents, applies automatic pH and temperature compensation, and outputs data via RS485 (Modbus RTU).

2. How does it work?

The sensor assembly includes an ammonium ion electrode, a pH electrode and a reference electrode. The ammonium electrode responds to the ammonium ion activity in the water; the pH and temperature readings are used to compensate the result, so the ammonia nitrogen value can be calculated without sample pretreatment or chemical reagents.

3. Does it need reagents?

No. The MIK-ADI3050 requires no reagents, which means no reagent consumption, no waste liquid and no secondary pollution, and lower running costs than reagent-based analyzers.

4. What electrodes are included?

It is supplied with an ammonium ion electrode, a pH electrode and a reference electrode. A potassium ion electrode is optional.

5. What is the potassium electrode option for?

Potassium ions are the main interference for ammonium ion-selective measurement. An optional potassium ion electrode allows the potassium concentration to be measured and compensated, which improves accuracy in waters with significant potassium content. Please tell us your water composition so we can recommend the right configuration.

6. What measuring ranges are available?

The standard ranges are 0–100 mg/L (WV) and 0–1000 mg/L (WX). Wider ranges are listed in the product data on this page; please tell us your expected concentration so we can confirm the correct version.

7. How accurate is the MIK-ADI3050?

The product data on this page lists the error as ±8% at 20% of range, ±5% at 50% of range and ±3% at 80% of range, with repeatability ≤3%. Please contact us to confirm the specification for your selected range.

8. What output and protocol does it use?

The output is RS485 with Modbus RTU protocol, so the sensor can be connected directly to a PLC, data logger, controller or IoT gateway.

9. What power supply does it need?

9–24 VDC, with a supply capable of at least 1 A.

10. What are the housing material and process connection?
  • Housing: POM or 316L stainless steel
  • Thread: NPT 3/4
11. What cable lengths are available?

Standard cable lengths are 10 m, 20 m and 30 m, and custom lengths up to 100 m are available.

12. Where is the MIK-ADI3050 used?

Typical applications include surface water, reservoirs, natural water, tap water and drinking water, domestic sewage, municipal wastewater treatment and industrial wastewater monitoring.

13. Can electrodes be replaced individually?

Yes. The modular design allows easy electrode replacement, which reduces downtime and maintenance costs. Please contact us for spare electrode part numbers.

14. How is the sensor calibrated?

Ion-selective sensors are generally calibrated with standard solutions of known concentration, or against laboratory results for your water. Because water composition varies, periodic checks against laboratory analysis are recommended. Please contact us for the calibration procedure.

15. How should the sensor be installed and maintained?
  • Immerse the sensor at a representative depth with the electrodes fully submerged.
  • Avoid positions with heavy air bubbles, such as directly above aerators.
  • Clean the electrodes regularly; deposits and biofilm affect the reading.
  • Check the reading against laboratory results and recalibrate when needed.
16. What can it be connected to?

It can be connected to any Modbus RTU master, such as a PLC, SCADA system or IoT gateway. If you need a controller with display and relays, tell us your requirements and we will recommend a suitable model.

17. What other online water quality sensors are available?
18. What information should I provide to get a quotation?

To help us select the correct configuration, please provide:

  • Application (surface water, sewage, drinking water, industrial wastewater)
  • Expected ammonia nitrogen range
  • Water temperature, pH and potassium content if known
  • Housing material (POM or 316L) and cable length
  • Host system (PLC, controller or IoT gateway)
