  • FAQ

1. What is the MIK-PTU8012 low turbidity sensor?

The MIK-PTU8012 is a flow-through low turbidity sensor with a measuring range of 0.01–100 NTU. It is widely used in sewage plants, drinking water plants, water stations, surface water and industrial applications for turbidity inspection.

2. What is the measuring range?

The measuring range is 0.01–100 NTU, which makes the sensor suitable for low-turbidity water such as treated drinking water and filtered water.

3. How accurate is the MIK-PTU8012?
  • Up to 40 NTU: ±2% of reading or ±0.015 NTU, whichever is greater
  • 40–100 NTU: ±5%
4. How is the sample water supplied?

The MIK-PTU8012 is a flow-through sensor. Sample water enters through the injection port and leaves through the discharge outlet at a flow rate between 300 and 700 mL/min.

5. What are the pipe connections?
  • Injection port (inlet): 1/4" NPT
  • Discharge outlet: 1/2" NPT
6. Why is a stable flow rate important?

For low-turbidity measurement, a steady flow within the specified range (300–700 mL/min) helps prevent air bubbles and sediment in the measuring chamber, both of which can cause unstable or falsely high readings.

7. How is the sensor calibrated?
  • Standard solution calibration
  • Water sample calibration
  • Zero point calibration
8. What cable length is supplied?

A 3 m cable is supplied as standard. Extending the cable is not recommended, so plan to install the transmitter or controller close to the sensor.

9. What materials are used?
  • Main body: ABS + SUS316L
  • Sealing element: acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)
  • Cable: PVC
10. What are the protection rating and weight?
  • Ingress protection: IP66 / NEMA 4
  • Weight: 2.1 kg
11. What ambient temperature is allowed?

The environment temperature range is 0–45 °C. Protect the sensor and sample lines from freezing.

12. Where are the dimensions?

A dimension drawing is provided on this page. Please contact us if you need a detailed installation drawing.

13. What output and power supply does the sensor use?

Please tell us the controller or system you plan to connect, and our team will confirm the output signal, power supply and a compatible transmitter, such as the MIK-DC2000.

14. How should the sensor be installed?
  • Mount the sensor on a panel or wall close to the sampling point and the transmitter.
  • Supply sample water to the 1/4" NPT inlet and route the 1/2" NPT outlet to a free drain.
  • Keep the flow within 300–700 mL/min and avoid air entering the sample line.
  • Protect the sensor from direct sunlight and freezing.
15. What maintenance does it need?

Periodically clean the measuring chamber and check the zero point and calibration. The frequency depends on water quality; cleaner water generally requires less frequent maintenance.

16. How is the MIK-PTU8012 different from the MIK-PTU300?

Both are designed for low-turbidity water. The MIK-PTU8012 is a flow-through sensor covering 0.01–100 NTU. The MIK-PTU300 is a laser low-turbidity meter with a very high signal-to-noise ratio, suitable for drinking water after membrane treatment. Please send us your application for a recommendation.

17. What information should I provide to get a quotation?

  • Application (drinking water, filtered water, surface water, sewage)
  • Expected turbidity range
  • Available sample flow and pressure
  • Controller or system to connect
  • Installation environment
  • Quantity
